Description
To think there was a time I hadn't heard, or perhaps not paid attention to, the name Calatrava! But once I did, I seem to see his designs everywhere. From the Milwaukee Art Museum to the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in Dallas TX (photos of both are in my portfolio on Fine Art America) to this, the Monjuic Communications Tower, also known as the Torre Calatrava and Torre Telefonica, found in Olympic park in Barcelona Spain., Construction began on the tower began in 1989 and was completed in 1992. The 136 m (446') white tower was built for Telefonica to transmit television coverage of the 1992 Summer Olympics Games in Barcelona. The shape is said to represent an athlete holding the Olympic Flame. Alternatively, it has been interpreted as representing a kneeling figure making an offering. From this view, it has a very Nineteen Eight-Four look to me, with the very industrial-looking objects in the foreground. The base is covered with trencadis, Gaudi's mosaic technique created from broken tile shards, although in more restrained colors. Aside from its distinctive structural form, the tower is innovative in enclosing the circular platform of microwave dishes, replacing the normal clutter with a serene white arc and turning the utilitarian communications tower into a work of sculpture.

Your great description added to my enjoyment of this image. Your editing and textures gave an even more dramatic flair to this futuristic work of art.

Great tones and foreground interest in this dramatic image. Congratulations on the 1st place win in the recent Unsaturated contest.
