Description
Edgartown lighthouse is one of the most scenic lighthouses to photograph on the Cape and the Islands, Its setting is scenic and there are no distracting power lines or other manmade structures that interfere with a beautiful composition. In this picture I focused on the grass in front of my and set a large aperture for limited depth of field blurring out the lighthouse. The lighthouse is best photographed during the golden hours of late afternoon or early morning. Polarizing filter will boost colors and minimize glare. A split Neutral Density filter will balance the contrast between bright sky and darker foreground when shooting at the wee hours or twilight.
Edgartown Harbor Light marks the entrance into Edgartown Harbor and Katama Bay. It was the first lighthouse constructed at the Edgartown Harbor entrance. The first light was built in 1828 The necessity for a lighthouse at this location was justified by the large number of vessels frequenting the harbor during the whaling boom of the late 1700s and early 1800s.
Good light and happy photo making!
