Description
Purple fall asters, otherwise known as Symphyotrichum oblongifolium. These are a common perennial shrub in Texas, blooming from September to November. They are one of the wonders of the autumn perennial flower garden, blooming in an explosion of color! One day you see just a few blossoms and within 3 days the bushes are in full bloom! They are going strong when all the other flowers have done their thing for the summer. Trim them back in the spring when they reach 12 inches tall to get a rich display of blooms. These are hardy and drought resistant once they are established. Full sun is best, which is great because we have alot of that in Texas!
