Flower fine art photography of a purple blooming Iris over black. The graceful and elegant Iris flower epitomizes love, luxury, strength, and beauty.
The other day I got my hands on a bunch of purple irises. It was a great find and allowed me to add an additional image to my existing floral Fine Art Photography Gallery collection. My studio window faces northeast and provides exceptional morning light bouncing off my neighbors' walls. This is ideal as I prefer working with natural light. I lighten up the darker areas of the floral when it is facing away from the window by using a reflector to direct light towards these areas. Adjusting the reflector to explore the impact of light in photography and better control the lighting on the floral is a great learning experience. It is a very delicate process and one has to watch carefully to notice the adjustment for maximum impact. Sometimes I am still in awe on its affect and how it positively enhances the quality of a photograph. In the final floral close up photograph of this iris I positioned the flower in the best possible way that allowed the right amount of back-lighting leading to a more pleasing flower image. I chose a large aperture setting (small f-stop number) of f/2.8 that provided minimal depth of field and an exposure time of 1/30 of a second at ISO100. During post processing steps I removed dust spots, minimally adjusted contrast, lighting and color saturation before sharpening the final flower macro photography image of this iris.
